BMW Boxer Twins and the brave new world of Liquid Cooling!

For all the progress we’ve made with engine technology over many summers, air cooled BMW Boxer Twins still are something like the one my Grandpa rode to impress my Grandma. So that’s pretty much how ancient air cooled BMW Boxer Twins have been. Heat kills engines and this is perhaps, one thing that the Men in white coats are certainly right about. Excess heat, on an internal combustion engine also means lesser power and torque along with more rebuilds and visits to the mechanic.

Lower fuel efficiency also results as a hot engine is not an efficient engine. To allay all of this, BMW Motorrad has decided to ring in the two magic words of liquid cooling and has given it’s boxer twins the much needed liquid cooling treatment. Though we can’t decipher much from the pic some sharp shutterbug has managed to snap, we take our friend, AsphaltAndRubber’s word for it. So, in the near future, we could have the BMW K1200GS’s of the world getting more cooler, more powerful, more fuel efficient, more reliable and oh yes, a little more expensive too.
