Is this how the facelifted TVS Apache RTR will look like?

A strong, rorty engine and nimble handling is seemingly not enough for the TVS Apache RTR twins to lead the 160-180cc segment in the Indian motorcycle market. So, Hosur based TVS Motors might just give the Apache Twins some more ammo in the form of a refresh even as the competition is moving on to bigger things like four valve DOHC heads and liquid cooling, to name just a few new additions that will happen in the Indian motorcycling sphere shortly.

While TVS has pulled off a segment first by launching the Apache RTR180 with an ABS system that can be turned on and off by the rider depending on riding conditions, the novelty value of the Apache’s once-sharp design is fading fast. A fully faired Apache RTR might just rustle up matters quite a bit as a full fairing is one of the most sought after aftermarket mod job amongst those Indian bikers who prefer posing.

TVS Motors also sells its Apache Twins in the Indonesian market and recently has just unveiled a fully faired TVS Apache for the Indonesian market. The motorcycle on display feature a host of visual and mechanical changes like the full fairing, dual front disc brakes, new alloy wheels, new footpeg geometry, new clip on handlebars, a new fuel tank, split seats, new tyres, a rear tyre hugger and a stubby exhaust.

While there has been no word forthcoming from TVS Motors on whether this fully faired Apache will make it to Indian shores, the upcoming 2012 Indian Auto Expo could be a place where TVS could display this model to gauge how Indian bikers respond this stylistic change. We for our part feel that TVS needs to up the game with not just a fairing, but with solid changes to the engine department like upping the displacement of the RTR twins to make more power and torque, at a time when the competition, both Indian and foreign is progressing on to make bigger displacement motorcycles that are much quicker than the Apaches, while also being sweet handling, well engineered and sharp looking.
