Kawasaki and Bajaj Auto, today organised a road rally in Pune to commemorate 1000 Ninja’s on Indian roads. The rally was attended by owners of the Ninja 250R with their machines from Pune as well as Mumbai. The rally culminated at hotel Le Meridian.

The event also coincided with the commencement of operations of “India Kawasaki Motors Pvt. Ltd.” (IKM), the fully owned subsidiary of Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Japan.

Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Tanigawa, MD, IKM, said,

“The launch of Kawasaki Ninja 250R has been a great success and the sales of the bikes has exceeded our expectations. The product appeal coupled with great after sales service support from Bajaj Probiking haas propelled the sales of the Kawasaki Ninja 250R. We will continue our efforts in further strengthening the Ninja brand in India.”

The Kawasaki Ninja 250R was launched in India in the month of October last year. Within one year of its launch, October, 2010 marks the sales of the 1000th Kawasaki Ninja 250R in India. The bikes is retailed in India exclusively through Bajaj Probiking, Bajaj Auto’s retail chain for premium motorcycles. There are 32 such sate-of -the-art showrooms across 30 cities in India.

Eric Vas, President Bajaj Auto Limited, told the media that Baja Probiking will take full responsibility to service the bike irrespective of the where the customer resides. Bajaj Probiking can tie-up with local service centers where ever Probiking outlets are not present.

Since their launch, the Ninja 250R (which comes as a CKD unit) is assembled at the Bajaj facility at Chakan. Currently, Bajaj Auto produces 100 bikes a month, however, the capacity can be doubled.

India Kawasaki Motors Pvt. Ltd. is also looking at other products including bikes ranging in capacity from 250cc to 1400cc. When asked about the effect Honda’s 250cc bikes could have on the sales of the Ninja 250R, Mr. Tanigawa said, that Kawasaki was confident since the Ninja 250R is a multi-cylinder bikes unlike the competition and one more point worth mentioning was that the Kawasaki Ninja 250R is available in 3-5 days (except during festive season).
