The 2011 Kawasaki Ninja 650R came, saw and seems to have conquered Indian motorcycling enthusiasts’ hearts. Launched just a month ago in India, this 650cc sports motorcycle sold and serviced by Bajaj Auto has taken the market by storm, surpassing all expectations that Bajaj Auto and Kawasaki might have had about its sales in the Indian market. So much so that Bajaj Auto has rumoredly stopped accepting bookings of the motorcycle until the festive season, according to a Bajaj probiking dealership.

In what looks like a bid to service the existing demand which comes with a waiting period of no less than 2 months for the premium sports motorcycle, Bajaj Auto might have got the pricing just right at INR 4.57 Lakhs, ex-showroom for the sportsbike. The Kawasaki Ninja 650R is a direct rival of another recently launched 650cc motorcycle, the Hyosung GT650R. With such a hefty demand for the Ninja 650R, which is built from CKD kits arriving from Thailand, at Bajaj’s Chakan plant, a price drop for the Hyosung seems in order.

More so, as the Hyosung GT650R sells a full $1000 lesser than the Kawasaki Ninja 650R in markets abroad. So, don’t be too surprised of Garware-Hyosung decide to cut the price of the Hyosung GT650R in order to boost sales, which could take a big hit due to the arrival of the Ninja 650R, which frankly feels like a much better finished motorcycle with a tried and tested 650cc parallel twin motor along with the brand value of being a Kawasaki.

With such a robust demand for the Kawasaki Ninja 650R, and to a lesser extent even for the Hyosung GT650R, it is just a matter of time before other motorcycle manufacturers like Honda., Yamaha and Suzuki join the bandwagon for their share of spoils, not to mention Triumph which is already firming up it’s Indian foray. All in all, very exciting times ahead for the Indian motorcycle enthusiast. You can read about our coverage of the Ninja 650R’s launch here and here.
