Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500 to be launched in May-June 2012; Cafe Racer 500 coming in early 2013

Royal Enfield’s solitary launch for 2012 will be the Thunderbird 500, a motorcycle that wowed show goers at the Indian Auto Expo by literally being the showstopper at the Royal Enfield pavilion. The Thunderbird 500 will be the flagship motorcycle from the Royal Enfield brand and will be powered by the torque bomb of a UCE500 engine. The fuel injected, twin spark 500cc unit construction engine produces a peak power of 27.2 Bhp and delivers a prodigious peak torque of 41.3 Nm. The engine is mated to a five speed gearbox and uses maintenance free hydraulic tappets.

The Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500 is expected to come with a price close to INR 2 lakhs, for it features an impressive amount of kit, including fatter 41mm front forks, an all new oval section swing arm, revised foot peg geometry, flatter handlebar, a rear disc brake, bungee hooks, a 20 liter fuel tank, projector headlamp and an instrumentation console with dual digital tripmeters. All these changes are primed to make the Thunderbird 500 a truly superb cross country tourer. The styling though, seems to be heavily inspired by a certain Harley Davidson Sportster. The other big launch from Royal Enfield which will happen in early 2013 is the Cafe Racer 500, which was another motorcycle which has been enthralling show goers at the Auto Expo, for consecutive Auto Expos now. The Cafe Racer variant will use the same 500cc UCE engine that is Royal Enfield’s  flagship engine, but will come with racy cafe racer styling. We’ve been getting numerous queries from our readers about when the single seater Royal Enfield Cafe Racer 500 will be launched in India, and finally it seems we have a definitive time line. And this is one motorcycle that many Royal Enfield enthusiasts will look forward to owning and riding.
