Rumor: 2012 Kawasaki Ninja 650R bookings to open in April!
Rumors are swirling on the interweb that Bajaj Auto will begin taking bookings of the 2012 Kawasaki Ninja 650R’s come April. The rumors go on to add that the 2012 Ninja 650R, which was only available in green thus far, will be available in red and green color. Also, the price of the 2012 is said to be unchanged at INR 4.57 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. If true, this news will come as a welcome one for all those lined up to buy the 2012 Ninja 650R. At this point in time though, these are unconfirmed rumors and we’ll have to wait for an official announcement from Bajaj Auto regarding this same.
The 2012 version of the Ninja 650R brings many changes to the table, right from the styling down to the frame of this sports commuter motorcycle. The 650cc, parallel twin, four stroke engine retains the power and torque figures of 72 Bhp and 60 Nm, even as Kawasaki has worked on improving the low end and mid range power delivery, key aspects that will actually matter for street use. Along with the bumped up usable power delivery, fuel economy is said to have been improved to a claimed 17.7 Kmpl on the 2012 model.
The 2012 Ninja 650R will be assembled at Chakan through completely knocked down(CKD) kits at India Kawasaki Motor’s assembly operation, alongside the Ninja 250R. We won’t be too surprised if Bajaj decides to retain the price of the 2012 Ninja 650R at current levels, despite all the improvements as competition has just hotted up quite a bit with Triumph entering with the fray with not one but two motorcycles in the sub 6 lakh category, the Triumph Bonneville 795 and the Triumph Street Triple 675, both very different motorcycles with much more street cred and appeal than the Ninja 650R, which is a sports commuter at best!
