Thumbs down: KTM 125s to cost north of INR 1 Lakh

2010 KTM Naked Concept

2010 KTM Naked Concept

Here’s a dampener from the Bajaj-KTM combine. The KTM 125 Naked Racing Concept could cost more than INR 1 Lakh. While, we can’t blame both Bajaj or KTM for this high price, this pricing level means that the KTM 125 concept will be accessible to very few well heeled bikers who actually manage to put the small cubic capacity of 125cc on the back burner.

While this price is certainly justified considering the cutting edge technology that has gone into the 15 bhp, liquid cooled KTM 125s, we’re pretty certain that these machines will adorn the Bajaj Probiking stores more as a brand builder for KTM’s larger capacity motorcycles than to garner any serious sales. The KTM 125 Naked Concept will be designed mainly by KTM and will be produced at Bajaj Auto’s Chakan plant.

What this will essentially do is, it will give Bajaj Auto plenty of technological prowess, which then will certainly filter to the Bajaj Motorcycles that me and you can buy. So, that’s a huge takeaway from this entire KTM 125 Naked Concept’s launch in India. Bajaj Auto-KTM will also export the 125cc KTM to European markets where the KTMs will be sold at sizable premiums over the Indian versions. Meanwhile, production versions of the KTM 125 Naked Concept will be in Bajaj Probiking showrooms sometime in 2011.
