Upcoming 2012 TVS Phoenix 125 motorcycle appears in a video showing off its wares

In the next few weeks TVS Motors will unveil a brand new commuter motorcycle in the 125cc space. Dubbed the Phoenix, the 125cc motorcycle is essentially the street version of the Radeon 125 concept that was showcased earlier this year, at the 2012 Indian Auto Expo. The Phoenix will essentially become the second 125cc offering in TVS Motors’ line up for the Indian market, poised to cater to the increasing demand for the 125cc motorcycles, even as more and more commuter motorcycle buyers upgrade from the 100-110cc space. Here’s a video grab of the 2012 TVS Phoenix 125, from what seems to be a dealer launch at Bangkok, Thailand.

The TVS Phoenix comes with a range of features to give it breathing space itself in the ultra competitive 125cc class in India. Chief amongst these features are as follows,

* Clear lens headlamp with pilot lamps

* Digital instrumentation console that comes with a range of functions like distance covered, speed, trip meter and a fuel guage.

* LED tail lamp

* Dual spring rear suspension

* Petal disc brake

* Alloy Wheels

* Electric Start

The TVS Phoenix 125 is expected to feature the same 125cc engine that powers the Flame SR125. The 125cc, four stroke engine which operates on three valves delivers a peak power of 10.5 Bhp and a peak torque of 10 Nm. This engine is mated to a four speed manual gearbox. With those specifications, the Phoenix 125 seems more like a competitor to the likes of the Honda Shine and the Bajaj Discover 125 rather than the Honda Stunner or for that matter, the class leading Bajaj Discover ST125. Expect pricing to also reflect the positioning, with the Phoenix likely to occupy the lower end of the 125cc commuter motorcycle space.

After the launch of the Phoenix 125, expect TVS Motors to focus on launching the new Victor and a 125cc automatic scooter later this year. Also, a hybrid scooter called the Qube is expected to be test launched later this year to gauge the market response of the market to the first hybrid scooter in India. So, that’s pretty much what TVS Motors will launch during the rest of the year, even as it began its launch program for the year with the facelifted Apache RTR160 and RTR180 twins.
