125cc Segment: Yamaha to launch the YBR on April 14th, 2010

Yamaha India‘s fortunes have been on the upswing ever since it launched the game changing sports bike in the form of the Yamaha R15.

It followed up with the FZ16 and the Fazer, which too are seeing some terrific sales. Now Yamaha India wants to target the bread and butter segment, a segment which it has never really been successful in. So,Yamaha India is said to be mulling the launch of the YBR125, one which has been a decent seller in the Brazilian market. The Yamaha YBR125 will feature the tried and tested 123.7 cc engine, which also does duty in the Yamaha Gladiator 125.

The YBR125 is all set to offer a cheaper alternate to prospective buyers of 125cc motorcycles who are looking at a no nonsense, rugged commuter motorcycle. While a front disc brake might be offered as an option, we aren’t too sure about the electric starter making it to the Yamaha YBR125. While a bunch of other Indian auto blogs are reporting that the YBR will feature a sub 110cc engine and are even featuring an Alba lookalike to be the YBR, we’re not buying that theory as Yamaha already has the Alba and the G5 doing duty in the entry level segment.

Thus we see no point in the Alba being relaunched as the YBR with almost no significant changes. Meanwhile, the Yamaha YBR125 is set to be launched on 14th April, 2010.
