Come 2010, Yamaha India will bring the 2010 Yamaha R1 to India
Worldwide, super bike enthusiasts could revel in the ultra high performance of the 2010 Yamaha R1 from October. Yamaha India will be a few months late but it will get there anyway, and Indians too can buy the 2010 R1, come 2010. That’s right, Yamaha India is planning to launch the 2010 Yamaha R1 shortly. Expect a preview of this revolutionary liter class high performance motorcycle at the 2010 Auto Expo. Meanwhile, Yamaha has also revealed that the 2010 R1 will cost a little more than the outgoing R1, which means that enthusiasts will have to be prepared to shell out a Lakh or more Indian Rupees for the 2010 version.
So what is so different about the 2010 Yamaha R1 that enthusiasts are so eagerly waiting for. For starters, we have the heart of the matter, the engine, which gets a refined version of the crossplane crank that the 2009 model came with. This technology perfected in MotoGP was first used in the 2009 R1. The 2009 R1 with Crossplane crank received rave reviews for it’s almost electric turbine like power right from the word go. The uneven firing pattern resulted in the R1 sporting V-Twin like grunt in the low end of the rev range and behaving like a typical inline four cyclinder superbike at the higher end of the rev spectrum.
This gave the 2009 R1 enough pizzaz to pummel racetracks across the world while street riders too loved the R1 for it’s tremendous low end punch. Yamaha has further refined this technology to make it a bomb proof package in the 2010 R1. Handling also gets a shot in the arm with short wheelbase long swingarm combo. This gies the 2010 enough flickability with the overall stability too not going for a toss. Styling gets some MotoGP treatment and this is something we don’t like. We always loved the R1 for the crouching, sleek, flowing lines but Yamaha hae somehow broken from tradition and made the R1, well lumpy or stubby looking. While this makes the 2010 Yamaha R1 very compact, but that is a little too compact for our liking. Racers won’t mind that though. That said, styling is an individual preference.
So, what we might not like, others may. That apart, the 2010 Yamaha R1 looks like an extremely potent package that bikers will love, both on and off the track. And here is an Indian thing we couldn’t resist adding. Also, we’re in the middle of the Copenhagen climate summit and so here we go, the Yamaha R1 will deliver 14 kilometres per liter of the dinosaur remains. If not anything, that figure should just about seal the deal for the mileage conscious Indians ;-D
