    Suzuki Slingshot 125cc costs 56k
    Honda Shine 125cc costs 63k
Honda Stunner 125cc costs 66k (analog meter, no kicker)
Yamaha SZ-R 150cc costs 67k (analog meter, but no kicker)
Suzuki Gs150r 150cc costs 72k (digital meter, with engine balancer, with 6th gear for highway)
Honda unicorn 150cc costs 73k (analog meter)
Bajaj Pulsar 150cc costs 73k (digital meter)
TVS Apache 160cc costs 73k (digital meter)
Honda dazzler 150cc costs 77k (digital meter, with rear disc, but no kicker)
HeroHonda Hunk 150cc costs 77k (digital meter, with rear disk, but no kicker)

Can Any one tell me exactly about the on road performance of Yamaha SZR. I am looking to buy it soon. Please advice if there are any demrits of this bike.

Looking to hear from you soon. Thanks………….

    May 19, 2011 at 7:46 pm

    Hi Risabh,

I got my SZ-R on 21st april. the bike is nice but i discovered some demerits.
The head lamp is not so powerful.
The rear brake is a bit less responsive.
It hasn’t been a month I own this bike…I have achieved a top speed of 113kph. its pick up is decent and u can have fun but the TVS tyres man!! the tyres are not good and roadgrip is negligible. It takes away all the fun!
Otherwise , the bike is cool…. ppl will turn faces towards u when u ride it. it hasnt yet gone for 1st service..but i have calculated a rough mileage of about 48-50 kmpl in Pune city.
onroad price in pune is 63,750/-

    any other querry. tell me.

    • Jay Prashanth

      May 19, 2011 at 11:08 pm

Thank you for giving your precious time for answering the query Chandrakant!

About the TVS tyres, I still don’t know why Yamaha outfits their budget motorcycles with the horrible rubber that TVS Srichakra makes. I remember my ’98 Yamaha YBX125 riding on TVS Srichakra tyres and not surprisingly, the tyres were the biggest limiting factor to what was a decent handling bike.

i am planning to buy SZR 150 CC Bike with red colour. it is my first time of bike riding. Is it comfort to me ? There is only self start option.i mean does only self start option is enough for best performance ? some time i use to go through gravel ( not pitched) road for long distance. is it comfortable for this purpose ? i have heared that Yahama company launched two different bike SZR -150cc and SZX-150 cc bike.what is the different between two bikes in cost wise and performance wise ? is the cost same or anything else ? pls advise me via mail.

When I went to the showroom to buy this bike, they said kick starter can be fitted if you pay extra, but it is not in stock as of now and it will be available in a few days. Its been about 3 months now, that I own this bike. But, still whenever I call them for a kick starter, they reply with “not in stock”.. the self start has been working good. But, I am afraid, if kick starter can really be fitted. Anybody who has fitted a kick starter in Yamaha SZ-R please contact me or just send me a mail.

    October 18, 2011 at 4:53 pm

For those of you worried about the missing kick start option, I have read somewhere that in case the elctric start fails, parking the bike on center stand and rotating the rear-wheel backwards will start the engine. Not sure how correct it is but some of the owners might try this and post here if it works

Yamaha has now started selling SZ-Rs with a kick start. Even otherwise, there should be no issue in cold starts too.

i have purchased this bike on aug30 its third service has over it is giving mileage of 50 in city i didnt checked in highways ,i have worried because it is going topspeed of 103 nt gng more than that please suggest if any one has ride this bike mre than 110 pleas tel how u ride this bike in wich rpm and in wich gear u maintained wat type of speed please tell

  44. Chandrakant

    February 22, 2012 at 9:26 pm

    Hi Akshay,

I have attained a max speed of 113kph with my szr, as I had already mentioned in my previous comments. It depends on how u handle the bike. 1st n foremost, u shudnt overspeed ur bike for the 1st 500kms @least. otherwise, performance may degrade considerably. if this is not the case with u, then let me tell u a basic rule: accelerate gradually rather than all of a sudden to achieve the highest speed.

my sz r hav both start

  48. Krishna

    August 25, 2012 at 5:04 pm

    Hi Rajavel,
It seems that you are not getting good mileage for your bike for what you paid. I also own SZ-R (red color). It looks good and gives me 50-55kmpl mileage. I just maintain it well.
    Tips to get good mileage:-
    1) In your free servicing period, let the servicing be done on time.
    2) When you start riding your bike from stationary position, do not accelerate drastically. It spoils the average.
Accelerate gradually and ride between 40-50 km/hr speed. If possible at 45km/hr
    3) Use the clutch full when gear shifting.
    4) Tune your bike for more mileage at the yamaha servicing centre.
    5) After your servicing period you should keep changing your bike oil after every 3-4-6 months atleast.

Hope you get a good experience with the SZ-R!!!
Its one of the best bikes I have riden.
    I love mine. :)
If anyone had any queries regarding this bike then do write to me her. I will try my best to answer.
