New Yamaha YBR 110 Motorcycle: Old soda + Old bottle

YBR Bike Yamaha Red Black 110cc

YBR 110cc Bike in Red / Black Color Combination

As reported by us yesterday, Yamaha India has launched their new YBR 110cc today.

The Bike is a new entrant to the “Family Commuter” Segment and Yamaha is pinning high hopes on this new model. We have got exclusive details of Technical Specifications of this new commuter motorcycle in India and honestly we’re more than a touch disappointed.

While we thought that Yamaha India has learnt it’s past lessons, it doesn’t seem like it. The YBR is purely a damp rehash of the dismal selling Yamaha Alba Economuter. Instead of loading the YBR up with something that will grab the buyers’ attention, Yamaha yet again has seemingly shot itself in the foot by making do with a moniker change.

Of course, the 106cc four stroke engine that the YBR comes with is a rugged reliable mill that is exceptionally smooth with it’s single balancer shaft. I have spent considerable time with this and the 123.7cc YBX’s engine to truly know what this engine is capable of but this gem of an engine is only part of the bigger package which in other words is the YBR.

And packaging is where Yamaha India seems to have screwed up once again. Adding insult to injury, the YBR promises to be sluggish with the 7.6 Bhp output of the engine having to lug around 123 kilos of kerb weight. Inexplicably the styling remains dated except for a graphic job. A disc brake gets left out and so does a fifth cog.

All of this is offered by the competition and in view of this glaring lack of equipment, why will anyone bother buying a Yamaha Economuter motorcycle given the fact that Yamaha’s are known more for performance machines?

If you’re in the market for a economuter motorcycle, there are better options. As simple as that.

I have purchased a YBR110 around a week back, in Mumbai. The bike’s build quality is excellent. Engine is butter smooth, gears are weel spaced, giving good low end torque. Very comfortable for city driving.
I think this is one of the best commuter bikes in the market. Thanks YAMAHA for bringing out this bike at an affordable price.

What is the mileage of this bike?

  6. Niranjan on May 30th, 2011 6:09 pm

Bike is very well, but mileage is worrying, Normaly in city riding it gives 46-53.
