2 Tonnes of Bentley Continental breaks ice-speed record

As far as laws of physics go, weight is one of the factors that govern the speed of a car. Especially, when the car in question weighs in at almost a hefty 2000 kg, you won’t expect it to be very rapid, leave alone breaking the world ice-speed record. To get around this, Bentley installed a 6.0 liter W12 petrol engine in the Continental SuperSports Convertible to make it move, and move it does. The 2 tonne slab of metal can be hauled at 202 mph thanks to 621 bhp, courtesy the awesome W12.

Cracking the 200 mile an hour barrier can be a piece of cake especially when the Continental Supersports rides on 275/35 ZR20 Pirelli Ultra High Performance rubber. So to up the ante, Bentley put the Supersports convertible on a 20 centimeter thick frozen Baltic sea and gave it the beans. Result: The Conti-SS sailed passed 199.83 mph to reach 205 mph breaking the record and the man behind the wheel was Juha Kankkunen. Video after the jump.
