The 2012 Vodaphone McLaren-Mercedes MP4-27 breaks cover!

Mclaren Mercedes has become the first team to showcase their Formula1 car for the 2012 Formula1 championship season that will kick off in March 2012. Moments ago, the 2012 Vodafone Mclaren-Mercedes MP4-27 Formula1 car broke cover on the interweb with a raft 0f images to show for. The Mclaren Mercedes MP4-27 builds upon last year’s race car with plenty of new bits, rather than being an all new design. The 2012 MP4-27 features a completely new chassis, revised aerodynamics at the rear end of the car and a new cooling system to keep temperatures of the gearbox in check.

On how well these systems will come together to make the Mclaren Mercedes MP4-27 a strong racing package can only be gauged once the season gets underway. Mclaren-Mercedes for their part, will be hoping that the 2012 MP4-27 car will be a better performer right from the beginning of the season, much unlike the start to their 2011 F1 season, which was plagued by reliability issues of their F1 car. Meanwhile here are statements from both the Mclaren-Mercedes drivers, a line up that has been unchanged for 2012, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button,

Lewis Hamilton looks raring to go and here’s what he has to say about his preparations for the 2012 season,

The winter has been a great opportunity to recharge – I got away into the mountains, spent a lot of time hiking and running, improving my fitness and starting to prepare for the new year. It’s always great to get away from everything; change the scenery. And what’s great about Formula 1 is that you start each season with the baseline completely reset – everybody starts again from zero – and that always makes me so hungry

Jenson Button, on the other hand focused more on the car and the team in his statement,

With the regulations remaining relatively stable, we’ve really been able to focus on the detail with this year’s car. I still think we had a very fast package last year – it was very strong in certain areas – and our race pace was almost always fantastic, but we’re hoping for a further step forwards in 2012. With Mercedes-Benz, I think we also had the best overall engine and KERS Hybrid package in the pitlane.
