Dani Pedrosa wins the 2011 MotoGP Portuguese grand prix
Dani Pedrosa wins at Estoril
Jorge Lorenzo started the Portuguese round of the 2011 MotoGP from pole position. Lorenzo had won the grand prix of Portugal three times in the past, consecutively. This time it was Dani Pedrosa who came on top and broke Lorenzo’s 3 win streak. Jorge came in second while Casey Stoner finished in third place.
Lorenzo lead for most of the race but Dani Pedrosa was able to slipstream the Mallorcan and take the lead from him. Dani Pedrosa thus went on to take the checkered flag. Casey Stoner cruised to take the last spot on the podium with Andrea Dovizioso taking fourth. Andrea fought a great battle with Valentino Rossi and in the end came on top by a very small margin of 0.025 sec.
Colin Edwards took sixth behind Rossi and ahead of Cal Crutchlow. Nicky Hayden on the second Ducati came in ninth after fighting with Ben Spies on the other factory Yamaha. Randy de Puniet on his Pramac Ducati finished in tenth spot. Alvaro Bautista was riding in his first race of the 2011 season after missing two of the opening races after crashing out at Losail, Qatar. Bautista finished 13th.
After the Portuguese round, Jorge Lorenzo leads the tables with 45 points and Pedrosa in second with 36. Casey Stoner with 25 points trails behind teammate Dani Pedrosa. The Repsol Honda Team lead the constructors table. In the 125 cc race that followed, the best of Mahindra Racing’s Danny Webb finished in 16th spot and Michael Schrotter in 18th. India’s Sarath Kumar was classified 24th.
