European GP Qualifying : Red Bulls lock the front row with Vettel on pole

Red Bull is back on pole and so is the wunderkid Sebastian Vettel. Vettel took second pole of the season after the Chinese GP and surprised his team mate Mark Webber by edging him out in the last lap by .075 seconds. The German clocked a time of 1:37.587 against the Australian’s 1:37.662.

Following the Red Bulls is the British star Lewis Hamilton who clocked 1:37.969; his lap time was affected due to a mistake on his final lap entering the turn 17 hairpin. Completing the second row is the home hero Fernando Alonso who lapped the track in 1:38.075 as he failed to make the most from a fresh set of soft tyres when it mattered.

Close behind him was his team mate Felipe Massa and Robert Kubica who manged to get a lap time of 1:38.127 and 1:38.137 respectively. Defending world champion Jenson Button could manage to get only seventh in the grid because of locking his brakes while heading into the final corner ruining his final sector time.

Coming in at eight and ninth position are the two Williams cars, Nico Hulkenberg and Rubens Barrichello setting identical lap times of 1:38.428. Finishing the top 10 list of drivers is Vitaly Petrov in his Renault followed by Sebastian Buemi of STR-Ferrari and Nico Roseberg of Mercedes GP.

The two Force Indias did not make into the Q3 of qualifying and Adrian Sutil and Vitantonio Liuzzi managd to qualify 13th and 14th respectively. Michael Schumacher disappointed once again and was able to qualify only 15th.

Filling up the remaining grid positions are Pedro De La Rosa, Jaime Alguersuari, Kamui Kobayashi, Jarno Trulli, Heikki Kovalainen, Lucas Di Grassi and Timo Glock. HRT’s Karun Chandhok outqaulified his team mate Bruno Senna again wrapping up the grid positions.
