Jorge Lorenzo takes top honors in the 2010 Dutch MotoGP at Assen
Jorge Lorenzo exults after winning the 2010 Dutch MotoGP at Assen
Spaniard and Fiat Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo won a flawless race from pole in the 2010 Dutch MotoGP Premier class at Assen. Jorge Lorenzo who dominated all weekend extended his impeccable form on his Fiat Yamaha M1, to fend off Honda rival Dani Pedrosa and Ducati rider Casey Stoner, both of who managed second and third places respectively.
The race was by no means a walkover for Lorenzo as he had to fend off a very strong attack from fellow Spaniard Dani Pedrosa who made a stonking start which saw him catapulting to second place from a lowly seventh place on the starting grid. Casey Stoner on his Ducati followed Pedrosa closely and for the initial few laps the trio of Lorenzo, Pedrosa and Stoner were separated by less than a third.
This order continued for a few more laps before Lorenzo and Pedrosa started to break away from Stoner. Pedrosa tried giving Lorenzo a good fight but once Lorenzo got into the groove, he left Pedrosa far behind. Lorenzo went faster and faster on his Fiat Yamaha and far from challenging him, Pedrosa couldn’t even keep the storming Lorenzo in sight. Lorenzo extended his lead to over 3 seconds and rode home first, comfortably.
With this the 23 year old Spaniard extends his championship lead to 47 points over Dani Pedrosa, who dislodged his Honda team mate Andrea Dovizioso from second place in the championship standings after 6 races this season. With this, Jorge Lorenzo leads the hustings with 140 points while Dani Pedrosa follows with 93 and Andrea Dovizioso brings up the trio’s rear with 89.
