Karun Chandhok amidst negotiations for a 2011 F1 seat!
Karun Chandhok
Karun Chandhok warmed many an Indian motorsport enthusiast’s heart when he consistently outpaced his team mate, Bruno Senna, whom he drove alongside in the former half of the 2010 F1 world championship. In a sport dominated by big money, a rookie driver often finds himself in the unenviable position of having to muster enough sponsorship money to keep his racing career ticking despite putting in sterling performances, race after race. Karun Chandhok found himself exactly in the position described above and in no time found himself out of the racing seat at the Hispania Racing F1 Team.
Japanese driver Sakon Yamamoto replaced Karun Chandhok while the lesser performing Bruno Senna clung on to his racing seat. Not one to be deterred by closed doors, Indian F1 ace Karun continues to train hard and negotiate with the F1 teams for a possible place in the 2011 F1 world championship. Here’s what Karun had to say, when quizzed about his F1 plans for the future.
My goal for next year as I’ve said before is still firmly to be in Formula 1 and negotiations for a drive in the 2011 F1 World Championship are progressing in the right way, so hopefully we’ll have a final program in place before the F1 world shuts for Christmas.
Meanwhile, Team ICB hopes that a certain Mr Mallya picks Karun up and offer him a racing position at his Force India F1 team. What a glorious sight that would be, when an Indian F1 driver screams past the grandstands at the 2011 Indian Grand Prix in an Indian F1 car. Karun, keep your chin up mate. The entire nation’s good wishes are with you.
