New Tire supply regulations from MotoGP Brno weekend onwards
MotoGP- Bridgestone tires
It is MotoGP’s Brno grand prix this weekend as the daredevils on two wheels move to the Czech Republic. It will also be the first weekend under the new revised tire supply rules. Each rider will get three compounds of the Bridgestone tires to choose from instead of the usual two. Bridgestone will bring an additional soft compound tire for the grand prix weekend. The new rule changes have been made as a safety precaution in case of a lower track and ambient temperature conditions.
Also, every rider will also have a choice of rear slick tire compounds and they are also asymmetric for the first time. The riders will now have a total of three compounds for the front slick the third being an additional soft compound. However, for the rear, riders will have ten slick tires for the weekend with two compound options and riders can choose a maximum of six of one compound option and four of the other. The new regulations do come as a welcome move as we have already seen numerous incidents where-in riders have crashed by losing front end grip under much colder conditions.

If the track temperature is on the colder side, the tires struggle to build up heat which results in lower grip levels. A softer compound tires heats up more rapidly compared to a harder compound and hence the addition of a softer compound tire has been made. Although, rides might not face this issue at Brno as the track surface is known to be quite abrasive compared to other tracks. Since, the track is abrasive, it offers loads of grip and hence we might not see riders going out on the softer tire. But, riders might choose the softer options for the morning sessions when the ambient as well as track temperature will be low.
