All you need to know about the Toyota Etios Motor Racing initiative!

Tomorrow, Toyota will showcase the Etios Motor Racing concept through a road show at Chandigarh, India. But before that, we’ll give you a complete overview of what the Etios Motor Racing concept is all about and what it means for young Indian racing aficionados who want to break into the world of professional motorsport. The Toyota Etios Motor Racing Championship will have a few exhibition races in 2012, with the official one-make championship to begin in 2013, which is also when the participants aged 15-24 will be able to race against each other in this event.

The 2013 championship will have 25 cars, all Toyota Etios sedans race prepped by Toyota Racing Development(Toyota’s motor racing wing). The TRD Etios will ride on 17 inch click tyres with upgraded brakes apart from other modifications on the engine department for more power. Details of the mods to he engine haven’t yet been revealed though. The TRD Etios will also come with a roll cage and strengthened chassis bit to handle the extra stresses of circuit racing. Also, the body work will be modified accordingly, to provide maximum grip during the races. Races will happen at Buddh International Circuit, Madras Motorsports Club and at the Karivardhan circuit with more venues likely to be announced.

Participants for the Etios Racing Championship will be chosen through driver camps held from March through June 2012. During this period, the drivers who have registered will need to participate in go-kart races and on simulators to qualify for the final shortlist of 25 drivers, who will actually be able to race in the championship. Once selected, the 25 drivers will be put through a mentoring process by former racing drivers and race organizers.
