Review: Maruti Suzuki Dzire ZXI+ AMT

We have a car that recently made into the news for being the fastest entry-level sedan to reach the 1 lakh unit sales. Yes, you guessed it right we are talking about the new Maruti Suzuki Dzire and here we present you the detailed review of the most loved sedan from the Maruti Suzuki stable.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire has been serving the Indian customers from last 5 years and went through different changes through this span of time and the same thing happened this year when Maruti Suzuki launched the all-new fascia of the Dzire in April. Since then Maruti Suzuki has sold over 1 lakh units of the Dzire, pretty fast I must say. So, what has made this sedan so special that has made Indian customers go all GAGA over this and making it one of the fastest selling sedans in its segment? Let’s go over the details below.

EXTERIOR

Maruti Suzuki has completely changed the looks of the New Dzire when compared to the previous generation Dzire. The new curvy Hexagonal grill has taken place of the traditional grill surrounded by chrome borders. Headlamps have got major upgrades, where there were traditional halogen headlamps in the previous generation Dzire, this time car has got more powerful LED projector headlamps and Daytime Running Lamps. The body curves from the front have changed a lot while the rear fascia retains some genes from the older model but with added LED taillights and sharper boot lines it now looks even better. Newly designed multispoke 15” diamonds cut alloys have been provided in the top variants which adhere to the overall look of the new Dzire.

All the changes are not only done in the aesthetic appeal but in a practical way too. The dimensions have changed in the new model and it now measures 2470mm on the wheelbase, 3995 mm in length, 1735 mm in width and 1515mm in height which concludes that new model is 40mm longer in wheelbase and 40 mm wider and 40mm shorter in the height than the previous generation while the length remains same in both.

We love the way new Dzire looks and way it makes a statement and presence on the road but just the way a car looks on the outside doesn’t contribute to the huge sales of a vehicle other factors are also considered too so let’s move to the interior of the new gen Dzire and check out what all changes Maruti Suzuki has done.

INTERIOR

Over the past 4-5 years, many changes were done to the Dzire and all of them as we say we’re a little touch and minor updates but what change Maruti Suzuki has done in the Interior of the Dzire can be purely considered an upgrade. Early models always have a 2-din stereo with the physical button in the top variant but this time the conventional 2-din stereo has been replaced by a 7” Touchscreen infotainment system which supports Apple Car Play and Android Auto with an integrated reverse camera. The response from the touch screen is very good and feels premium in using with sharp details. The sound from the speaker also feels better in quality from the previous gen Dzire.

The whole interior has been given a makeover and the steering from a traditional triangular shape has been changed to more aesthetically looking round shaped with steering mounts and wooden inserts which give the user a premium feel while driving. Tech list doesn’t end here, Maruti Suzuki has introduced Auto Headlamp feature for the first time in the top variants and it responds very fast as we tested the vehicle in different light conditions.

Apart from whole new design theme in the interior what comes added with all the flavour is the new Analog speedo cluster which now comes with white backlit and all new dials over the previous gen Dzire. The digital display in the middle shows various parameters such as Range, Trip, Odometer, Average Consumption, Instantaneous Average, and Fuel level is also displayed on the digital screen rather than in an analogue manner like in previous gen Dzire.

Other features include two 12V outputs, ISOFIX rear seats, Automatic Climate Control unit and for the first time, Maruti Suzuki has introduced rear AC vents for the rear passengers. All these changes have definitely uplifted the wow factor of Dzire.

With the increase in the overall wheelbase the legroom inside has increased up to 55mm and rear seats have now more leg space and occupants can enjoy the long drives more comfortably. All of this leg space can be combined with 376 litres of boot space with massive opening makes it easy to manoeuvre the stuff.

SAFETY

Maruti Suzuki has definitely worked upon the safety of the occupants of the new Dzire and for the first time, they have introduced ABS and two Airbags as standard across all the variants. This makes new Dzire compliant with the upcoming safety norms and regulations.

PERFORMANCE

New Dzire is powered by the same 1.2-litre NA K12 petrol engine as old gen Dzire producing the same power of 83BHP @6000 rpm and peak torque of 113NM @4200 rpm. The car is lighter than its older predecessor it feels punchy and fast when compared with the older model. Push the throttle and the car starts zooming past all the vehicles. New Dzire is capable of clocking the0- 100Kmph mark in just 11.9 seconds which makes it fast than the outgoing model.

We drove the AMT variant and it did not feel like a regular AMT and it felt definitely much smoother in gearshifts. Be it city driving or highway cruise the gearbox feels very comfortable but lacks instant power delivery in case of instant overtaking as the gearbox takes few seconds before it downshifts and delivers the power. ARAI figures of AMT petrol variant is 22Kmpl but as we tested the car we got around 17Kmpl in combined city and highway runs in the ratio of 60-40 respectively.

On the other hand, the diesel engine is also the same Fiat sourced 1.3-liter Multi-jet turbocharged unit and power figures also remain similar to the older model. Power stands similar at 74BHP @4000 rpm and torque is 190Nm @2000 rpm. Comparing the 0-100 timing of the diesel variant of both generations it was held that new Dzire is almost a second faster than old gen with fetching the 100kmph mark in just 12.1 seconds. All this is possible because of the new improved and lighter chassis. ARAI mileage figures of the Diesel variant of new Dzire is 27Kmpl.

CONCLUSION

The New Dzire is definitely a step ahead of its predecessor in almost every way, be it interior design, exterior changes, premium cabin feel, light and improved chassis, increased rear leg space, lots of equipment, and much more.

Petrol engine paired with AMT is definitely the best option to buy because of the refined petrol engine and its power delivery and smoothness of the AMT. One thing that new Dzire lacks is the presence of new engine options which we all expect to come soon. On the other side all these changes have made the car a bit more expensive than older model but still, it’s nothing less for its price and gives an upmarket feel to its occupants. New Dzire is one of the best products from Maruti Suzuki and it shows us why it is selling like hot cakes.

RIVALS

New Dzire has a strong market competition with many entry-level sedans such as Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, Volkswagen Vento, Ford Aspire and with so many competitors in one segment it is hard to be the key player and New Dzire is definitely keeping its status high with such sale figures and features.
