Hyundai Elite i20 hatchback to get a midlife facelift soon; launch in 2018

One of the popular hatchbacks in India, the Hyundai Elite i20 is set to get a comprehensive face lift for both the exteriors as well the interiors.

Launched in 2014, the Hyundai Elite i20 is one of the best selling hatchbacks in India. Taking the fight to Maruti’s Swift and Baleno, the Hyundai i20 is a premium hatchback offering quite a lot for the money. Despite being 3 years old, the design of the car still looks fresh and sharp and the Hyundai fluidic styling ageing well.

The Hyundai Elite i20 had received a little face lift a while back with some of the changes seen on the Active version like the contrast interior coloured bits around the AC vents and the LEDs in the headlights. Now the hatchback is set to receive a more detailed face lift and test mules are out on the roads.

Some of the spy shots reveal a new front-end, a new grille in a single frame design in a hexagonal shape. There are no chrome slats and the grille is like a mesh type. The headlights, fog lamps and the front bumper will also get a few subtle changes so the pre and post facelift cars can be told apart on the road. Rear of the car will also get the similar treatment, maybe LEDs for the brake lights and some design tweaks to the bumpers. Alloys are also slightly different with the new diamond-cut wheels slightly darker, in a black finish.

Like the exteriors, the interiors will also get a refresh and will sport dual-tone interiors, with different colour combinations, beige and black will be one of the options. Some bits like the steering wheel from the new Verna will be borrowed, as well as the centre console with the updated multimedia console supporting voice commands and other new features.

Coming to under the hood, there won’t be much changes in the current lineup engine options. The 1.2 and 1.4 litre petrol engines will be carried over along with the 1.4 litre diesel engine as well.

Hyundai will most likely facelifted Hyundai Elite i20 at the 2018 Auto Expo.
