Derailed for now: TVS Motors’ EV Story

TVS Motors was betting on EVs till sometime ago, but now that scenario seems to have changed drastically. Disappointed by the dismal sales of the TVS Scooty Teenz Electric, whose production was discontinued in May 2009, TVS plans to go slow on future EV development. What this also means is that the slew of electric and hybrid vehicles TVS showcased to an excited audience at this years Auto Expo are going to be put on the back burner, that is if they already haven’t been.

So, with a major player like TVS Motors exiting this promising segment, the established players like Hero Honda and Bajaj Auto also might do a rethink on their EV plans making the future a tad gloomy for the EV market. All said, TVS Motors hasn’t ruled out a comeback to the EV market in the future, when the market demand picks up. Till then, we guess it is up to the smaller players like Elektrotherm to continue selling their EVs and thus popularizing the greener way of getting around.
