Yamaha Scooters to arrive only by 2012 in India: The Wait Continues!

Yamaha Motor India has been making plenty of noises time and again about it wanting to take a share in the growing Indian scooter market pie. We even had a few Yamaha scooters displayed at select Yamaha showrooms across India to gauge buyer feedback. Now, the latest bit of buzz emerging from Yamaha is that the firm will launch a scooter sometime in 2012. While details about which scooter they plan to launch remain sketchy, here’s official word from India Yamaha Motor Pvt Ltd CEO and Managing Director Hiroyuki Suzuki,

The scooter market in India is huge and we want to have a strong presence. Now we are preparing to launch a scooter here within 2012. It will be focused more on personal commuting, with stylish and smart design like Yamaha’s motorcycles that are sold here. In Indonesia, Yamaha has a market share of around 46 per cent(in scooters), which is very close to that of Honda. I want to replicate that here in India as well.

So, from what we’re hearing, Yamaha is developing an all new India specific scooter and the scooter will primarily be targeted at the youth. So, that is good news as the last time that happened, we got two great motorcycles in the form of the R15 and the FZ16. So expect some zany styling and a rorty 110-125cc engine that will give Yamaha’s latest scooter offering enough pizzaz to make sure that the Indian youth take to it in a big way. All said, it will be a mighty achievement if Yamaha replicates the same kind of success that market leader Honda enjoys in India currently.

Awaiting for the launch of Yamaha Scooter very long. It was scheduled to launch during 2011. Now 2011 is almost over. Can you confirm the exact time of launching of Yamaha Scooter in India during 2012 please.
