Yamaha Scooters To Launch in India !!

In the sideline of Auto Expo 2010 at New Delhi, Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer Yamaha, India announced its plan of introducing scooters in the Indian market. The parent company, Yamaha Motor Company, Japan, which is the world’s largest gearless scooter maker with a wide range of scooters starting from 50 cc to 500 cc, has started feasibility studies for introducing its scooters in India.

Yamaha has made available three scooters -50 cc Neo, 115cc Fino and 135cc Spark- across selected dealers in India to measure the market response.

“We are studying the market to enter the scooter segment, but we have not finalised the product line yet. However, one thing is sure that we will launch scooters in India.” India Yamaha Motor National Business Head Pankaj Dubey said. The feasibility study is mostly focusing on the model to be introduced and possible Time To Market of the product in the country, he added. The feasibility study is expected to complete by mid of 2010.

“We are evaluating whether a model from our existing global scooter portfolio will be launched here or a completely new product will be developed for the Indian market,” he said, adding that the company is also evaluating whether Yamaha would focus on premium or mass market product.

In the helix of 50 to 125cc range segment, Yamaha has to compete with other major players like Honda’s Aviator, Dio, Activa and TVS’s Scooty pep. Though Bajaj has exited from the scooter market there are other potential manufacturer’s like Mahindra and Mahindra are eying this segment.

As soon as the first production hits on the road it has to compete against Hero Honda pleasure, TVS scooty and Activa which are veterans in the non-male bike segment. In order to dislodge the front runner Honda Activa which enjoys 55% market share in this segment Yamaha will have to focus on style, power and trend besides the pricing. With the growing market of scooter since last two fiscal years and the stiff competition ahead it will be good time for us to twit.

Hi,
2011 is already here but till date no companies have come out clearly whether they are going to launch their scooters or not except Vespa LX 125 and that too in 2012. I would love to see the Yamaha BW125 and Honda PCX 125 as early as possible. But not with a very big price tag and dont try my patience. Mind it.

Yamaha , Hope you will launch all your exotic models for us to enjoy before OIL diminishes.

I do not understand why the thinking for such models ,You now get all international brand 4 wheelers, But two whelers are either thinking or trying to launch huge non affordable vehicles.
