Volvo Trucks has unveiled the new FH16 750 tractor. The new truck gets added horsepower and more crucially added torque. Volvo engineers have managed to pump out more power from the engine of the new FH16 750 without compromising on fuel efficiency or reliability. How much more power does the engine produce is what most of you must be wondering while those keen enthusiasts might have guessed it by now.

The new FH16 puts out 750 horsepower but what amazes me the most is the torque the beast generates. The Volvo FH16 750′s 16 litre engine churns out 3550 Nm of brute twisting force. This heavy duty workhorse needs such massive amounts of torque to lug biblically massive loads. The top-of-the-line tractor from Volvo is designed for this very purpose i.e. to pull massive loads without even breaking a sweat. The engine and the Engine After Treatment System (EATS) is optimized for handling all the power and performance.

The Fixed Geometry Turbo allows for better fuel efficiency along with the added power. The new Volvo FH16 750 gets a stronger version of the ATO3512D gearbox with I-Shift. The clutch has also had to be reinforced to handle all the power and torque produced by the in-line six-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine. The FH16 was first introduced by Volvo back in 1987 with a 16 litre, six-cylinder engine. Later on the engine was tuned to produce more power and in 1993 was producing 520 bhp already.

In 2009, Volvo launched the FH16 with 700 bhp. Over the years, Volvo has perfected the 16 litre diesel engine so much that today when the same engine is producing 750 bhp, the engineers have managed to achieve similar levels of fuel economy figures as the lower rated engines.
